Panerai Celebrates 100 Years In Florence
Panerai is preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its historic Florence boutique with Immersion, an exhibition opening in September. Panerai will host the “Immersion” brand exhibition at the Museo Marino Marini in Florence, Italy, from September 10 to 19, 2026. Celebrating the centenary of its historic Piazza San Giovanni boutique, admission is free with online registration.
The exhibition will explore Panerai’s history and identity through an immersive experience rather than simply displaying watches.
Geneva Watch Days Returns In September
The watch calendar is already looking towards September, when Geneva Watch Days returns to Geneva. The event has become an important meeting point for independent and smaller watchmakers, giving collectors an opportunity to discover brands outside the traditional major manufacturers.
With independent watchmaking continuing to attract attention, Geneva Watch Days should provide an interesting look at where the next generation of luxury watchmaking is heading.
Jewellery News
Van Cleef & Arpels Expands In Madrid
Van Cleef & Arpels has opened its first boutique in Madrid, expanding its presence in Spain. The move comes as major jewellery houses continue to invest in physical boutiques and flagship spaces around the world.
The expansion is interesting because it demonstrates that despite the growth of online luxury retail, the physical experience remains extremely important for high jewellery. For pieces involving rare gemstones, craftsmanship and significant investment, being able to see and handle the jewellery in person remains a major part of the buying experience.
High Jewellery Becomes More Artistic
A trend we’re seeing across the jewellery industry is the increasing importance of design and artistic expression.
The latest high-jewellery collections from the world’s major maisons increasingly resemble wearable works of art, with unusual gemstones, transformable pieces and highly technical craftsmanship.
Jewellery is becoming less about simply displaying the value of a gemstone and more about the story, design and craftsmanship surrounding it.
Fashion News
Chanel Defies The Luxury Slowdown
Chanel is providing one of the more positive stories from the fashion world. The house has reported strong growth during the first half of 2026, with sales increasing by around 16%. The performance comes at a time when several major fashion houses are dealing with slower demand and changing consumer behaviour.
The appointment of designer Matthieu Blazy has also brought renewed attention to Chanel’s creative direction. It will be interesting to see whether this momentum continues as the new creative vision develops.
Copenhagen Fashion Week
Copenhagen Fashion Week has been taking place this week, showcasing the Spring/Summer 2027 collections. The event continues to demonstrate the influence of Scandinavian fashion, with a focus on considered styling, strong tailoring and individuality rather than overt branding.
Among the trends emerging from the street style are stripes, Bermuda shorts, bandanas, fringe and more structured silhouettes. But perhaps the bigger story is that luxury fashion continues to move away from the idea that luxury needs to be immediately recognisable.
For many consumers, quality, design and individuality are becoming more important than simply displaying a logo.
Luxury Becomes An Experience
Luxury fashion is also continuing to move beyond clothing. Brands are increasingly creating restaurants, hotels, beach clubs, exhibitions and immersive spaces as extensions of their identity.
Coach, for example, has opened a new Coach Play concept store in Paris, while Burberry is preparing a collaboration with the V&A celebrating the history and craftsmanship of the trench coat.
The message is becoming increasingly clear: Luxury isn’t necessarily just something you buy. It’s something you experience.
Automotive News
Monterey Car Week Is Underway
For car enthusiasts, August means one thing: Monterey Car Week.
Taking place in California this week, Monterey brings together some of the world’s most important collector cars, manufacturers, designers and collectors. The week culminates in the legendary Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where some of the rarest and most significant cars in the world compete for recognition.
It is one of the most important events on the collector-car calendar and increasingly acts as a stage for manufacturers to unveil their latest creations.
Bugatti Creates A One-Of-One Hypercar
One of the most fascinating developments in the automotive world is Bugatti’s move further into ultra-exclusive, individually commissioned cars.
The Bugatti Destrier is a one-of-one creation designed through the brand’s Programme Solitaire. Rather than simply offering customers a choice of colours and interior materials, Bugatti is moving towards creating individual automobiles that can be treated almost as works of art.
The Destrier is based around Bugatti’s extreme engineering philosophy and produces a reported 1,578 horsepower. But perhaps the most interesting part isn’t the performance. It’s the fact that there is only one.
This raises an interesting question for the luxury automotive market: Are the world’s wealthiest collectors increasingly buying cars or commissioning automotive art?
Travel News
A New Era For Luxury Hotels
Luxury travel continues to move beyond traditional five-star hotels. Today’s luxury traveller is increasingly looking for something more personal with exceptional design, wellness, gastronomy, privacy and a genuine sense of place.
New properties opening around the world are increasingly designed around the destination itself rather than simply providing a luxury hotel that could exist anywhere.
Aman Expands Into Baja California
Aman has opened Amanvari, a new ultra-luxury resort on Mexico’s East Cape of Baja California Sur. The property combines desert, mountains and ocean, bringing Aman’s minimalist approach to one of Mexico’s most dramatic landscapes.
It is another example of the growing demand for remote luxury destinations where privacy and surroundings are just as important as the hotel itself.
A Historic Venetian Hotel Gets A New Chapter
One of Venice’s most famous hotels is preparing for a major new chapter. The historic Hotel Danieli has become Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel, following a significant restoration.
The property sits beside St Mark’s Square and has been part of Venice’s luxury-hotel landscape for generations. Its transformation is particularly interesting because it combines two powerful ideas in luxury: heritage and reinvention.
Rather than replacing the history of the building, the aim is to preserve its identity while introducing a new generation of luxury hospitality.

Is Exclusivity Becoming The New Luxury?
Perhaps the biggest theme we’ve noticed this week isn’t a particular watch, jewellery collection or car. It’s exclusivity.
Look at what’s happening across the luxury world. A one-of-one Bugatti. Rare high-jewellery creations. Independent watchmakers producing extremely limited watches. Luxury hotels opening in increasingly remote destinations. Fashion houses creating private experiences rather than simply selling collections.
The definition of luxury appears to be changing. For decades, luxury was often about having the money to buy something expensive. Increasingly, it seems to be about having access to something that very few other people can have.
That could mean a unique watch, a bespoke piece of jewellery, a commissioned car or simply an experience that cannot be replicated.
Perhaps the ultimate luxury isn’t simply “How much does it cost?” It’s: “How difficult is it to experience?”
